Congratulations to Professor Jac Birt, Head of Accounting and Finance at the UWA Business School, awarded a Fellowship of AFAANZ at the annual Accounting & Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) Conference dinner. Professor Birt joins a group of 32 distinguished Fellows, three from The University of Western Australia.

UWA Business School retains AACSB international recognition 

The UWA Business School has retained a prestigious accreditation for a further five years through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International following a rigorous peer review process. Only five per cent of business schools in the world have achieved. 

Chancellors Medal awarded 

The Deputy Chair of the UWA Business School Board will be awarded the Chancellors Medal on Tuesday 26 July at the UWA Business School Graduation Ceremony.

Contemporary Issues in PRME Annual Lecture 2023

The UWA Business School is pleased to invite you to attend the annual Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Lecture. This year's PRME Lecture will be held online and in-person and will explore the profound significance of water as an essential life force and how our relationship with it has changed since colonisation.  

The lecture will be presented by Danjoo Koorliny Co-Director Carol Innes AM who will be joined by Winsome MacLaurin and Jason Barrow and Co-Director Danjoo Koorliny Dr. Richard Walley will give the Welcome to Country.

Shann Memorial Lecture

The annual Shann Memorial Lecture was introduced to honour the memory of the Foundation Professor of Economics at UWA, Edward Owen Giblin Shann. Edward Shann has been regarded as the pioneer of the academic development of economics and traditional Australian economic history and he was a strong advocate of individual intellectual freedom and developing a sense of social responsibilities. He penned several books and essays on the economic history of Australia and was a major influence in formulating financial and fiscal policies in Australia.

The 2022 Shann Memorial Lecture was presented on Wednesday 28 September. The event was hosted by The UWA Business School and The Economic Society of Australia (WA Branch). This year's lecture was given by Meghan Quinn, Secretary of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Meghan presented on A perspective of the financial system through COVID and beyond. About Edward Shann

Edward Shann was born in 1884 and graduated with first-class honours in history and political economics from Queens’ College, University of Melbourne. He won several scholarships and went on for higher studies at the London School of Economics. He returned to Australia from England in 1910 and was lecturer-in-charge of history and economics at the University of Queensland from June 1911 to December 1912. He joined the University of Western Australia in its inaugural year of 1913 as the Foundation Professor of history and economics. He then went on to work at the University for a total of 22 years and was Vice-Chancellor from 1921 to 1923. Edward Shann’s life was cut tragically short when he died at the age of 51, in 1935.

Australian Awards for University Teaching recipient

Congratulations to UWA Business School's Associate Lecturer, Antony Gray, who received an Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning award in December 2019. 

Antony was the first in his family to finish high school and, after studying music at WAAPA, spent 25 years as a professional musician playing, recording and touring with groups that included everything from jazz ensembles to indie-rock bands.

After leaving the professional music world (much to his parents’ disappointment!), he began his UWA degree in English and Cultural Studies, and French. As a consequence, he understands the struggles students can face when they first enter the university classroom.

Ant is a passionate and dedicated teacher who strives to help students succeed in their studies.
