Applying for Honours

Honours is a final year of study in your BCom or BEc. You continue to focus on your major while developing research skills.

As a guide, to be eligible you must achieve at least a 70 per cent weighted average in all units taken within the major which you intend to undertake honours.

Students wishing to apply for Honours must do so by the advertised deadlines. Applications can be made online through Student Connect.

Thesis submission

Getting your submission in on time is essential. Submission of dissertations and theses are for:

  • Students completing at end of first semester: 4:00 pm, last Friday of the semester
  • Students completing at end of second semester: 4:00 pm, last Friday of the semester

Unless you are ill, no extensions will be allowed beyond one week and then only in exceptional circumstances. After this, a mark will be based on whatever work you have done. If you do not not submit by the deadlines you will be marked on your supervisor's assessment of the work that they have has seen to this point. The mark awarded will reflect the failure to submit the work.

Binding

You are responsible for photocopying and binding your own theses. Contact administrative staff for instructions. Theses are photocopied and bound within the Business School. You are allowed three copies; for each copy:

  • one hard plastic cover sheet
  • one thick card (for back cover)
  • one plastic binding comb
Previous dissertations and thesis are available for review. Ask your discipline office for available titles.
