The increasing cultural diversity of UWA staff and student populations poses both opportunities and challenges for teaching and learning.
The University and the Business School are committed to equipping staff with the necessary skills to assist students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in progressively improving their English language abilities, while remaining culturally sensitive.
To support staff in addressing these needs, the University has prepared ‘Good Practice Guidelines on Culturally Sensitivity in Teaching and Assessment’.
This ‘Good Practice Guide’ also refers to a nationally-recognised ‘Cultural Diversity Inclusive Practice Toolkit’ from Flinders University. This Toolkit contains useful ‘Theory into Practice Strategies’ (TIPS) to enable staff to monitor their practice within the classroom.
The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) is currently in the process of adapting these materials to suit the UWA context.
