Databases in Business

Review the Business Students Guide to a number information resources with databases grouped in smaller areas of business such as marketing or company information available through the Business Library.

It also includes some of the larger collections of online journals covering business and the social sciences.

The University in conjunction with the Business School provides a variety of database and research resources for staff and student use

The following are available for staff and students (by request)

All of these databases are available via the library's SuperSearch service (excluding Datastream and Bloomberg - these can only be accessed via dedicated machines in the Business Library. Bookings required.)

Business Source Premier

Provides full text for nearly 8,350 business journals and other sources.  This database offers information in nearly every area of business including management, economics, finance, banking, accounting, and international business.  The database also includes other sources of full text information such as country economic reports from the EIU, Global Insight, ICON Group and CountryWatch and detailed company profiles for the world's 10,000 largets companies.

Factiva

Factiva provides full text access to newspaper and magazine items form over 8,000 sources, in 22 languages and from 118 countries.  Includes a wide range of Australian newspaper titles, including Fairfax and New Limited papers.  Access to the full text of the West Australian is provided.  Also included are 270+ newswires, 7,500 news and business websites, and 20,000 company reports.

Global Market Information Database (GMID):

Provides access to a wide range of business intelligent data on countries, industries, companies and brands.  It includes demographic, economic and background marketing statistics for over 200 countries, market research reports for industries at a national level, market sizes and forecasts for a range of market sectors, and more.

Aspect Huntley's Fin Analysis and Dat Analysis:

DatAnalysis:

Provides comprehensive data for all ASX listed companies. These reports are updated daily from relevant ASX announcements.  The search tool allows you to conduct powerful searches across all sections of the DatAnalysis database to provide a list of companies that match your selected criteria.

Fin Analysis:

A 12-year history of detailed financial information for all companies listed on ASX. More than 400 data items are provided and the data is entered and audited by financial analysts. Innovative web-based research functions help make using, searching and interpreting the data as easy and efficient as possible.

Mergent Online:

Enables in-depth business and financial research. You can search the following: U.S Company Data, International Company Data, U.S Company Archives, International Company Archives, U.S Annual reports, International Annual reports, Factsheets Plus, Factsheets Express, Factsheets International, Institutional Holdings, Insider Trades and Expanded Long term debt, Equity portraits, Corporate Bond portraits.

Datastream:

Contains 1456 stocks for listed Australian companies as well as a number of dead stocks. Provides daily share price history and selected ratio information for Australian and international companies dating back to 1970 where available.  Also contains international share price indices figures, as well as exchange rate data and economic and ommodity data.  Datastream is not available for use on Sudnays.  Availabe on one machine in the Business Library.  Bookings required.

Bloomberg:

Interactive financial information network that looks at global financial markets. Integrates data, news and analytics. Enables access to 3.6 million financial instruments. 24/7 interactive help facility available. Available on only one machine in the Business Library.  Bookings required.

International Financial Statistics:

Produced by the International Monetary Fund and is a standard source of statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance.  There is a long time series.

CRD (Core Research Data (from SIRCA):

The core research data contains three main sections; prices, announcements and indices. A wide variety of data is available on each one of these sections.

SDC Platinum:

Get the latest support materials for SDC Platinum and its comprehensive financial transaction databases covering corporate and public new issues, M&A, joint ventures, syndicated loans, project finance and much more. The database can be queried to get specific information on the merger (such as price of share before merger, and price of share after merger and a whole lot more). The data can also be filtered to attain information in a specific time period, in a certain number of countries etc. The most recent 30 days data is not available.

WRDS

Centre for Research in Security Prices (CRSP):

The CRSP maintains the most comprehensive collection of security price, return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and NADSAQ stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta- and cap-based portfolio, treasury bond and risk-free rates, and mutual fund databases.

CRSP also provides CRSP/COMPUSTAT Merged Database, a database that simplifies matching COMPUSTAT financial data to the CRSP security price data.

COMPUSTAT:

COMPUSTAT (from Standard & Poor's) provides more than 300 annual and 100 quarterly Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows, and supplemental data items on more than 24,000 publicly held companies. The COMPUSTAT databases on WRDS include Industrial, Full Coverage, Research; Prices, Dividends & Earnings; Segments; Bank; Canadian; Global Vantage; and EXECUCOMP

Institutional Brokers Estimates System:

IBES provides consensus and detail forecasts from security analysts, including earnings per share, revenue, cash flow, long-term growth projections and stock recommendations.

Share Price & Price Relative Database (SPPR)

SPPR database is an historical record of share prices and calculated price relatives of all Australian listed and previously listed companies with fully paid shares.

For each company, the share price, dividends, adjustments for share issues and reconstructions, number of shares on issue and price relatives are held on a monthly basis. Pertinent company and trading information is also supplied.

An accurate and conveniently arranged version of historical Stock Exchanges information, the SPPR covers the period from December 1973 to December 1999.
