The following sources may be used to assess quality Business Journals.

Identifying Journal Quality

  • The ABDC list (Australian Business Dean’s Council list) classifies journals into 4 categories, A*, A, B and C, where A* represents the highest level. It is a list agreed by Australian Business Deans Council in 2008 to represent journal quality. It may well be similar to the final ERA list, currently under review.
  • ISI – Thomson’s ISI offers information on ‘recognised’ journals. Also see the impact factor. This index forms part of the JiaoTong ranking criteria, now called the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Articles in journals cited by ISI are given a much higher weighting that those in non listed journals (Click ISI, then on journal citation reports and 2nd radio botton regarding Social Sciences; see Help menu on Socrates page for weighting information)
  • Scopus is a citation information base, which is currently being used to assess Cluster 1 (Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences) in the ERA assessment (Excellence in Research Australia). No decisions have been made as to whether Scopus or the ERA list (in #1 above) or another source will be used as the citation data source in the Social, Behavioural and Economic Sciences assessment in 2010 (Cluster 4) (1/5/09)
