How to Connect to Snap in Windows

SNAP is a VPN system that works via wired or wireless connection all over the University allowing you access to the Internet and internal University web services. Setting up SNAP is a simple process that need only be completed once.

 The steps are as follows:

1. Visit your Admin Officer and have them create a Business School staff user account.  Reception in each area can tell you the correct person to whom you should submit your request if you are not sure.

2. Once your Business School account has been created, you can use it to create your SNAP VPN account. To do that, go to the SNAP registration page at:

http://its.uwa.edu.au/staff/accounts/snap/register

Snap registration webpage.

In the Username field, be sure to put the @biz after your new Business School username otherwise SNAP registration will fail.
Follow the prompts with regards to the type and length of the new SNAP password you are creating and click "Submit Query".
If all went well, you will be told that your submission was successful and you now have a UWA SNAP account.

3. To configure your physical (Wired or Wireless) connection to the network, follow the instructions at the ITS SNAP instructions page however do not follow the directions down the bottom entitled "Configuring a SNAP VPN Connection" as we have a better method for that. If your machine still has its default settings, you should have to do very little here.

To disconnect, simply double click on the SNAP file on your desktop again and click the "Hangup" button.
