Getting online at home using recommended broadband services.
You can access the Business School's online resources, such as websites and email, from home via Virtual Private Networking (VPN).
Business School, Law School and SIS staff have a VPN service available via BITS.
Students need to use the ITS VPN service, as do staff who wish to access UWA services outside the Business School network. Students register using their Pheme accounts while staff register using their username@biz username and their regular password. You do not need a cyllene account to register.
To configure VPN to connect to the Business School, right click the My Network Places icon on your desktop and select Properties, then double click on "Network Connections". If My Network Places doesn't appear on your desktop, right click the Start menu button, select Properties then click the Classic Start menu radio button and OK.
Right click on "New Connection Wizard" and select New Connection.
This will open the New Connection Wizard.
Click Next, then select Connect to the network at my workplace connection type. Click Next to continue.
Select Virtual Private Network connection and then click Next to continue.
In the Company Name box enter "UWA Business School" and click Next to continue.

If you are prompted to dial an initial connection with a Public Network screen, select "Do not dial the initial connection".
In the Host name box enter staffvpn.biz.uwa.edu.au if you are a staff member. Click Next to continue.
Select "My use only" and then click Next to continue.
Tick "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" and then click Finish.
Double click on the new connection icon that appears. Enter your username in the Username box, preceded by BIZ\, then click Properties.
Once connected to VPN, you will be able to access internal Business School network resources. If you want to access the web, you will need to configure your VPN connection to use your "native" internet connection instead of the UWA one.
First, click on the Networking tab, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
Click the Advanced button.
Uncheck the "Use default gateway on remote network" box.
Finally, click on the OK button until you are back to the main window. Click Connect to establish your VPN connection.
