Richard Goyder holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia and was recently awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commerce.
After working in various commercial roles at Tubemakers of Australia Limited, Richard joined Wesfarmers in 1993. He held a number of commercial positions with Wesfarmers’ Business Development Department, Wesfarmers Landmark Limited and Wesfarmers Limited.
In May 2004, Richard was appointed Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Wesfarmers Limited, and in July 2005 he assumed the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Two years later, Richard transformed Wesfarmers with the successful acquisition of the Coles Group of companies. At more than $19 billion, this purchase was, and remains, the biggest transaction in Australian corporate history.
Richard joined the Board of Wesfarmers Limited in 2002 and is also a member of the AFL Commission and the UWA Business School Board. He is a Director of the Business Council of Australia and Chairman of Scotch College in Perth. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship at the UWA Business School, and in 2013 was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the General Division.
