Dr Fiona Wood is a clinical professor at the UWA School of Paediatrics and Child Health and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University in 2004.

In 1999, Fionaco-founded the McComb Foundation, a research-based organisation established to conduct research into tissue engineering. She is also the co-founder, chief medical officer and a director of Clinical Cell Culture (C3).

Fiona became the public face of her profession in October 2002 when she coordinated the burns treatment of 25 Bali bomb blast victims.

She is director of the West Australian Burns Service and consults to the Burns Units at both Royal Perth and Princess Margaret Hospitals.

In 2003, shewas presented with an award from the Australian Medical Association for her outstanding contribution to her profession.

Fiona was the 2005 Australian of the Year and West Australian of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

She is a member and past-president of the Australia New Zealand Burn Association and chair of the National Working Party for burn standards of care.
