Planning your Course

The Degrees offered by the UWA Business School are structured around majors. These allow you to follow your particular interests, and to plan for a specialised area of employment. Each major involves taking a number of related units at level 2 and level 3, usually six but in some cases more and you must do at least one major in your degree. You can add another major or majors to give a double or possibly triple major. Most students elect to complete a double major in order to increase the spread and depth of their knowledge.

When you start your degree you may not know which majors you want to pursue. Do not worry: You do not have to choose your majors until the start of your second year of studies and will be encouraged to select level 1 units that relate to your interests and the majors that you might consider for later years. It is a good idea to keep your options open.

Level 1 Core Units
All students must enrol in the following core and elective units in the first year of each course:

Level 1 - 8 units (4 units per semester) totalling 48 points

Students with Discrete Mathematics or its equivalent must enrol in ECON1111 Quantitative Methods for Business and Economics, prior to STAT1520 Economics and Business Statistics, and in place of one of the options.

Students who are not completing an Economic History major or an Industrial Relations major, must also enrol in one unit of Economic History usually ECON1141 Australian Economic Foundations at level one.

Students who have completed the first year of the BEc or BCom may apply to transfer as a non-standard applicant to the straight four-year Law course. A very limited number of places are normally available to applicants who wish to transfer to a combined course.
