The Graduate Diploma in Economics is useful for people working in both the private and public sectors, especially school teachers. The course articulates with the Master of Economics.

This Graduate Diploma covers economic theory and policy at graduate level.  It will enable you to work as applied economists in the public service and private sector and to participate in economic debate. 

Course structure

A candidate shall complete eight units comprising:

(a) one core unit

MGMT8506 Ethical Dimensions of Organisations, Management and Leadership

(b) one unit from group A and one unit from group B

ECON7491 Microeconomic Theory and Applications

and

Group B
ECON4418 Macroeconomic Theory or
ECON7492 Macroeconomic Theory and Applications,

and

(c) five units selected from the following

ECON4408 Advanced Development Economics
ECON4450 Advanced International Trade
ECON4503 Advanced Economic Analysis
ECON4504 Advanced Quantitative Economics
ECON4507 History of Economic Thought
ECON8320 Analysis for Natural Resources Economics
ECON8501 Resource Economics
ECON8502 International Finance and Markets
ECON8513 Applied Advanced Econometrics
FINA8432 Introduction to Finance

Admission requirements

A bachelor's degree with a major in Economics with a weighted average mark of at least 55 per cent or equivalent degree from another teriary institution, as recognised by the Faculty.

Or

A bachelor's degree with a weighted average mark of at least 55 per cent or equivalent degree from another teriary institution, as recognised by the Faculty, and two years relevant experience.
