The Graduate Diploma in Economics is useful for people working in both the private and public sectors, especially school teachers. The course articulates with the Master of Economics.

This Graduate Diploma covers economic theory and policy at graduate level.  It will enable you to work as applied economists in the public service and private sector and to participate in economic debate. 

Candidates who complete the diploma at a sufficiently high standard can proceed directly to the second year of the Masters of Economics.

Course structure

A candidate shall complete six units comprising:

(a) one unit from group A and one unit from group B

ECON7402 Microeconomic Theory or
ECON7491 Microeconomic Theory and Applications

and

Group B
ECON7418 Macroeconomic Theory or
ECON7492 Macroeconomic Theory and Applications,

and

(b) four units selected from the following

ECON7415 International Finance
ECON7450 Advanced International Trade
ECON7503 Topics in Economic Analysis
ECON7504 Topics in Quantitative Economics

Admission requirements

Domestic students

1. A bachelor's degree with a major in Economics with a weighted average mark of at least 55 per cent or equivalent, or

2. a bachelor's degree with a weighted average mark of at least 55 per cent and two years relevant experience.
