Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) is a multi-discipline university with six fields of study.

These fields are:

• Engineering
• Management
• Economics
• Literature
• Science
• Law

Chinese maritime education started at Shanghai and grew out of the Shipping Section of Shanghai Industrial College founded in 1909 (towards the end of the Qing Dynasty). SMU was established by the Ministry of Communications in 1959. Since 2000, it has been mainly administered by Shanghai Municipality and has been co-constructed by Shanghai Municipality and the Ministry of Communications.

The Master of Logistic Engineering and Management is available at the Shanghai Campus in conjunction with Shanghai Maritime University.
